What to see in your trip to Annecy ?
Nicknamed the “Venice of the Alps,” and rightly so — with its beautiful lake of turquoise waters worthy of a painting, Annecy is a destination that captivates young couples and families alike.
Start your walk in the old town of Annecy to admire its medieval architecture. Then, on the Thiou river , take in the Palais de l’Île — a building constructed on a rocky island, surrounded by stone houses and floating on the river . Don’t miss the Château-Musée, a historic site that traces the city’s history back to the Middle Ages.
For couples, a walk across the Pont des Amours (“Lovers’ Bridge”) is a must — offering a breathtaking view , with the lake on one side and the Vassé canal, dotted with small boats, on the other.
Before finishing your walk, you’ll likely come across the Champ de Mars, also known as Le Pâquier — a 7-hectare green space offering a panoramic view over Lake Annecy . Sit on one of the benches and take in the scenery before heading toward the Jardins de l’Europe.

Beyond Annecy: touring the lake from Lyon
Lake Annecy isn’t just the town itself — its shores are home to several villages well worth the detour , all directly accessible from your pick-up point, without the time constraints of a standard group tour .
Talloires and Menthon-Saint-Bernard
Talloires, nicknamed the “little Monaco of the lake,” owes its reputation to its 11th-century abbey . The area is also known for several highly regarded lakeside restaurants. Menthon-Saint-Bernard, meanwhile, lies about 15 minutes away by road (10 km) via the D909A. The village is dominated by its medieval castle, home to the same family for nearly 1,000 years — the gardens below already offer a view over the lake, even without visiting the castle itself. Nearby , the Roc de Chère nature reserve offers viewpoints over the Bay of Talloires, reachable on a roughly 30 minute walk.
Le Semnoz, a 360° panorama
Rising to 1,699 metres, Le Semnoz is accessible by car year round via the Crêt de Châtillon car park, about 15–20 minutes from central Annecy. Summer or winter , the view takes in the entire lake and the Aravis mountain range and on a clear day, even Mont Blanc. In winter, the site becomes a small family-friendly ski resort.
Col de la Forclaz
At 1,150 metres, the Col de la Forclaz is considered one of the finest viewpoints over the lake — and one of the region’s main paragliding spots. It’s accessible by car from Talloires or Montmin.
Unlike a group tour with a fixed schedule, a private driver moves at your pace: a photo stop at the Col de la Forclaz, lunch in Talloires, a detour to the Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard or a direct drive if time is short.
